Osteoporosis is a serious condition in which the bones become weak and can break more easily. It
leads to about two million fractures yearly. The complications from these fractures kill as many women as breast cancer. Follow these tips to help prevent osteoporosis.

Get enough of the mineral calcium, Calcium rich foods include nonfat and low fat dairy, sardines, collard greens, soybeans, tofu, turnip greens, salmon, and calcium fortified orange juice. If you aren't
getting enough calcium, ask your doctor about supplements.

- The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends that all adults under age 50 get a total of 1,000
milligrams (mg) of calcium daily, and women age 50 and older get a total of1,200 mg of calcium daily.

-  The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends that all adults under age 50 get 400 - 800
International Units ( IU) of vitamin D daily, and those age 50 get 80 - 1,000 IU of vitamin D daily.
