Flip-flops are widely available and affordable (though you can drop a bundle on a designer pair if you want to). But podiatrists are not fans of the
lightweight open shoes.
Besides leaving your
feet vulnerable to injury from stepping on sharp objects or getting stepped on themselves,
flip-flops offer little support, slip off easily while walking, and can actually affect your gait, making you vulnerable to potential heel, arch, and back pain, plus putting you at higher risk for fractures. If you’re going to wear them at all,
foot doctors caution, you should not wear flip-flops for long periods of time.
