You mind what you Eat. You watch what you drink. You take only the drugs your doctor prescribes. But staying a variety of seemingly harmless combinations of foods, beverages, and medicines can lead to serious risks. Take a few minute of your time to learn how to keep yourself safe.

1. Which beverage can diminish the effects of allergy pills? In a Canadian study, researchers found that a chemical in orange juice innterfered with a protein that moves drugs from the small intestine into the blooodstream. OJ can greatly weaken the effects of some allergy relief drugs.  It has been shown to interfere with other meds, too, including the anticancer drug etoposide. ( Orange Juice)

2. If you're on blood pressure medication, which juice should you avoid?  (Grapefruit)  contains a compound that interferes with the body's ability to metabolize certain calcium channel blockers ( a type of blood pressure medication),  allowing more and sometimes too much of the drug to enter the bloodstream. Researchers in New Zealand studied plasma and urine samples from subjects who took their pills with either orange juice or grapefruit juice. The grapefruit group's results showed higher concentrations of the medication. This interaction could lead to an overdose, causing your blood pressure to drop to potentially dangerous levels.

3. If you take blood thinners, which food should be eaten in moderation? (Kale) Dark greens are high in vitamin K, which naturally assists in blood clotting. If you've been prescribed a blood thinner, such as warfarin a drug that an estimated two million Americans start taking each year to prevent heart attack and stroke monitor the amount of vegetables such as kale, spinach, bdrussels sprouts, broccoli, and cabbage in your diet, as they can counteract the effect of the medication. Try not to eat more than one serving a day.
