Euphemia Lofton Haynes

Euphemia Lofton Haynes, born on this day in 1890, was the 1st African-American woman to earn a doctoral degree in mathematics. In 1930, Haynes founded the mathematics department at Miner Teachers College (now University of the District of Columbia) in her native Washington, DC. She earned her PhD from The Catholic University of America in 1943. #WomenInSTEM
